Kevin Rainey is a loving husband to his wonderful wife Cindy, devoted father to his 2 boys, Ronnie and Corey, and a caring friend to so many. Over the past year Kevin’s life has been turned upside down with a diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma. He recently sat down with many of his co-workers and friends and, with much courage and a smile on his face, said, "I never thought I would have cancer." He has managed to share laughter and a positive attitude even through the toughest moments. With all the advancements in cancer treatments, his last option here in the states is to have weekly chemo infusions. These have created uncontrollable nausea and diminished his quality of life, so Kevin has decided to pursue an alternative treatment at the Bio Care Hospital and Wellness Center in Mexico, where friends of his have had success fighting their own cancers. As you can imagine, these treatments are not cheap, nor are they covered by insurance, and that’s why we are here asking for your help. Please donate to Kevin’s cause, every little bit helps.
Here is Kevin’s story -
I started to feel bad in July and went in for blood tests. The tests revealed there was something going on in the liver and we were sent to Anchorage for further testing which revealed that I had Cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile duct). After recovering from the test done in Anchorage (ERCP), which resulted in pancreatitis and a perforated bowel, we made plans to go to Arizona for further treatment. We chose the Mayo clinic and after consulting with them, decided the best course of treatment was a liver transplant. After months of testing, chemo, and radiation the transplant was scheduled. We were blessed with a dear friend who came forward and wanted to be tested to be a donor and she was a perfect match!! The day before the scheduled transplant they opened me up to inspect the liver and make sure the tumor hadn’t spread, unfortunately it had spread and the transplant was aborted. The doctors gave me 3 weeks to 6 months to live, which could be extended a bit with palliative chemotherapy. After one round of chemo, and a miserable week we decided to explore the option of alternative treatments. We spoke with friends who have gone down to Mexico and have had great results and have decided to give that a try.
Through this journey, the one constant in our life is our faith, family and friends. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful support system and trust that where ever this road leads us, those three constants will get us through.
Over the past 23 years Kevin has been a vital part of the Enstar family, his church, and community. He has always been someone you could count on to be there when in need, and now he needs our help. Please consider donating, this treatment will give Kevin another shot at life. Thank you for your thoughts and consideration.
