Kevin Richardson's Medical Fund

I am creating this gofundme page for my dear friend Shannon Richardson.   I have known Shannon for many years.  Her friendship has seen me through many highs and lows in my life.   She is very intelligent, beautiful inside and out, devout Christian, a friend that when called upon will help at a moment's notice in any way she can.  She is deserving of any help I can provide her and she needs it now.  Her life changed drastically almost two years ago when her husband Kevin had a stroke and yet she has faced the many challenges since that time with incredible strength and grace that I find astounding.

Here is their story:
Kevin Richardson's life was forever changed on February 6, 2014 when at just 42 years of age he had a severe brain stem stroke. He spent a year on a vent while fighting to get stronger. He changed facilities several times as his family fought to get him the best rehabilitative care. Kevin spent roughly 569 days in hospitals, rehab facilities and nursing homes before he was strong enough to go home.

He finally came home on August 27, 2015 but he still has a long way to go.

His right side was affected. He cannot walk without assistance and he has severe balance issues that cause him to be unstable when he walks. He incurred some hearing loss. He has double vision in his right eye. Kevin's biggest issue is that the stroke took away his ability to swallow. He has a peg tube in his stomach and is unable to swallow his own saliva. He misses the simple pleasure of being able to have a meal with his family and eat at a restaurant.

Kevin has a wife Shannon (Hundagen) Richardson and three children, two of which still live at home.

As you can imagine, even with the best insurance, there is substantial unpaid medical expenses. There are additional ongoing expenses accruing as Kevin will need lifelong medical care due to his medical condition. Kevin remains hopeful that he will make strides in his recovery. He works hard at his physical therapy, has a determined spirit and is willing to do whatever it takes to get better.

Kevin and Shannon were introduced to the Institute of Neurological Recovery (INR) in Boca Raton, FL and discovered how their research may help Kevin in his recovery efforts. http://www.strokebreakthrough.com/

Kevin will never be the same again, he and Shannon realize and accept that, but this treatment may help heal the parts of Kevin’s brain that have become “cloudy” due to his stroke. Part of Kevin’s brain is dead as a result of the stroke, but this treatment may help Kevin unlock the ability to have more balance, strenghen his swallowing muscles, gain some eyesight and give him the ability to improve his walking strides.

Kevin and Shannon have large amounts of debt due to the medical bills piling up but they do not want to let this opportunity pass them by.  The money raised will be used for the medical and travel expenses related to the INR Stroke Treatment Program.  Please help Kevin’s dream of one day swallowing real food again and walking unassisted become a reality.   Kevin and Shannon will be grateful for any and every donation.
