Kevin’s Liver Transplant Journey

My name is Lauren and I’m fundraising because my dad, Kevin, is in need of a liver transplant.

For those of you that know my dad, you know that he is a very private person. It takes a lot of courage to expose a very sensitive part of your life.

My dad has been battling against liver related issues for 3 years now. He’s been strictly following every recommendation, getting routine testing and blood work, following through with procedures, countless doctors appointments, etc. However, after a recent acute event and hospitalization, it does not appear that his liver is in a state of being able to heal on its own like we had all hoped. His doctors at UPMC in Pittsburgh expressed that it is time to begin the journey towards a transplant. It is essential for his health and longevity of life.

My dad has always been a person who would do anything for anyone. He has come from hard work and sacrifice. Hardships are not foreign to him but I have never known him to complain as he always manages to land two feet on the ground and holds his head high. His family is and always has been his priority. Now, it’s time for us to help him.

My stepmom, Nikki, will need to take time off work often to be with him during trips to Pittsburgh, doctors appointments, procedures, and ultimately, surgery.

We are asking for help and support for my dad during this time to offset the costs of expenses related to hospitalization, medical bills, medications in addition to the costs that will be incurred due to transportation and extended time off work.

My dad is the greatest guy with the biggest heart. He wears many hats as a dad, husband, pappap, son, uncle, and friend. He has always served such an influential role in our lives and been our biggest supporter. He is dedicated, hard working and the rock of our family. Even with all of this going on, he still has his wit about him and for those of you who know my dad, you know that he’s always been a jokester. Nonetheless, this has been very hard on all of us. We are nervous but hopeful. Scared but remaining positive. Ultimately, it is my hope that with your help, he and my step mom can be relieved of financial pressures as they navigate through this difficult time - allowing them to make my dads health their main focus.

My dad was placed on the transplant list and will be undergoing pre transplant testing within the next few weeks. It came highly suggested by his medical team to seek out the possibility of a live donor, as this can drastically decrease my dads wait time for a new liver. If you are interested in being tested to see if you are a match please reach out to us. Once they meet with the transplant team and begin testing, they will provide him with a link that can by accessed by those who are interested in being a live donor. I will place the link here in an update when we receive it.
