The Kevin Staton Family

Donation protected
April, 27, 2017, was a rainy, spring day, like most other typical days, when Kevin asked Teri to make a doctor appointment for him. He had been fighting what was thought to be a bad cold. Little did he know he had been battling a bad case of pneumonia. After being seen in the clinic, he was transferred to the hospital in Benson, where he spent the next couple of days before going to St. Cloud Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU). On June 5, 2017, Kevin was discharged from St. Cloud Hospital to his home where he is now recovering.

Kevin (46), is married to Teri (Fragodt) and has three grown children - Samantha, Brianna and Connor.

This GoFundMe Page was set up on behalf of Teri Staton's Daycare Family. We feek family is important and provides support to each of its members during life's joys and help through hard times. The Staton's have a huge impact on all of our families and we want to show our support for Kevin's recovery. Updates:

(Day 2) Saturday, April 29, 2017
. Kevin's pneumonia spread to his other lung and he was transferred from Swift County-Benson Health Services to St. Cloud Hospital.

(Day 3) Sunday, April 30, 2017. Kevin had a bronchoscopy and a chest tube put in.

(Day 5) Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The doctor at St. Cloud Hospital assume Kevin's illness started with the flu, which turned into pneumonia and spread to the outer layer around his lung. A viral infection turned into a bacterial infection, therefore, surgery was required to drain the outer-lung liner.

(Day 7) Thursday, May 4, 2017. Kevin continues to have a fever. His right lung is getting better, but the left lung is not doing as well.

(Day 14) Thursday, May 11, 2017. Kevin had surgery to have a tracheal tube inserted to make him more comfortable. After surgery, Kevin seemed more at ease, and later, he smiled and squeezed his family's hands!

(Day 15) Friday, May 12, 2017. Kevin had a physical therapy assessment today. He recognizes when Teri is there. He still has a fever. If it continues, they will do another bronchoscopy in his left lung.

(Day 17) Sunday, May 14, 2017. For the first time in two weeks, Kevin's fever lowered to 98 degrees! Two doctors agreed his lungs sounded better than what the x-rays showed. He continues to sleep a lot and have difficulty breathing without assistance, but all-in-all, it was a good day!

(Day 20) Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Kevin had another bronchoscopy. The right lung looked better, but the left lung is growing a new pneumonia. His records were sent to the U of M for a second opinion.

(Day 22) Friday, May 19, 2017. The second opinion indicated that the U of M wouldn't do anything different than what St. Cloud Hospital is currently doing. They removed the right chest tubes. The cultures that were taken earlier in the week all came back negative. His left lung is still not doing well. He is having a feeding tube put in and will be starting regular physical therapy. Teri was happy to report Kevin was breathing on his own when she gave this update, and that he had done it for 1 1/2 hours earlier in the week! The doctor said that we are very lucky to have him with us.

(Day 24) Sunday, May 21, 2017. Kevin's hemoglobin was low today, so he received blood.

(Day 25) Monday, May 22, 2017.
Doctor said lung is looking a little better today. Kevin had his longest stretch of breathing today - 5 hours with a machine on CPAP mode!

(Day 29) Friday, May 26, 2017. Kevin is starting to breath some on his own. He is using a CPAP and today that is at 40% oxygen. He smirks when appropriate, squeezes hands, wiggles toes and will give a thumbs up when asked.

(Day 30) Saturday, May 27, 2017. Doctors are starting to wean him off his ventilator. It's a long, slow process, but he's beginning to make baby steps.

(Day 37) Saturday, June 3, 2017. Kevin was moved to the Progressive Care Unit at St. Cloud Hospital. He is up beat, talkative and happy to be with us!

(Day 39) Tuesday, June 5, 2017. Kevin was discharged from St. Cloud Hospital to his home!

Please keep Kevin and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
