Key West Kids Food Program
Donation protected
My name is Natalia Green and I live in Key West, Florida. In 2023, I will have my bat mitzvah through Congregation B’nai Zion. It is part of the Jewish culture and tradition to do a project for a good cause the year before.
During the Covid 19 lockdown, the City of Key West found out that many kids attending local schools don’t have enough to eat at home on the weekends. It surprised me and made me angry to find out that more than 500 kids needed food. Last school year S.O.S, a non-profit organization, ran a program through which kids could take home backpacks of food to help them and any siblings who were also in need of food through the weekend. Unfortunately, due to funding cuts, this program wasn’t able to continue running, which is why I am trying to get it restarted.
Each backpack costs $5.00 per child every week. I would like to do this every Friday of every week for the rest of this school year as well as next. If you would like to help, there are three things you can do: 1) volunteer to help pack the backpacks; 2) volunteer to hand the backpacks out at Bernstein Park every Friday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm; or 3) make a donation to purchase the food.
Sincerely,
Natalia Green
