Kyo's Transition Fund
Hello!
Thank you for stopping by my gofundme page for my transition. My name is Kyo and I'm a mixed black trans woman who is currently transitioning. I am and always have been incredibly apprehensive about asking for money. I've never wanted to be a burden on anyone but at the same time I realize that I simply cannot afford these costs alone. I do not have a family financial support network that can assist me in these costs. If there is anything that you can give to help, that would be amazing and I would be incredibly grateful.
For people that want to see the numbers:

Here's an example breakdown of some main costs:
Electrolysis ($140 per session) x 70 sessions (Yes, 70 with each session being about 2.5 hours) = $9,800
Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS) = $30,000 - $70,000 (Including Surgeon's Fee, Hospital costs, anesthesia, post-surgery prescriptions, tests, x-rays, travel and hotel stay afterward)
HRT - $30 a month, with insurance x (however many months I have for the rest of my life) = ???
And still there's more expenses.....but these are the main ones.
Total = $39,830 - 60k+
If these numbers seem pretty high, the reality is that this is relatively on the low end for some of these costs. I've consulted with three different laser technicians and all of them have informed me that the most effective option for my skin type and type that wouldn't leave permanent scarring (in the form of a beard shadow) is electrolysis since the contrast between my facial hair and my skin color is not significant enough and I have darker skin. Electrolysis is significantly slower and on average takes people about 100-300 hours of sessions to fully remove facial hair. I chose to place my estimated experience at 200 hours even though it most likely will be more.
If you would like more information about costs, you can also check out information right from gofundme itself.

I don't feel comfortable asking for all of these expenses to be taken care of, but I also realize that I won't be able to achieve any of these costs within my lifetime reasonably without help and insurance will not cover pretty much any of this (which is the unfortunate reality for a lot of trans people like me). I also will be researching ways to reduce some of these costs safely (If you come across any resources or ways to reduce costs let me know!). Lastly, I will be looking for ways to earn extra income in order to save for the day that I can finally have surgery even if it takes me a lot longer to reach if possible. Even if I never reach my goal, I wanted to let you know that I appreciate you even spending the time to read this and care about people like me. I love you all and appreciate your support.
Thank you. Forever grateful,
Kyo
