Keys Teacher Relief: Hurricane Irma
Donation protected
Children look to their teachers and their schools as a source of strength, stability and joy in the face of trouble.
In the destructive aftermath of Hurricane Irma, heaven only knows the loss, sadness and uncertainty many kids in the Florida Keys have seen during the massive clean-up and devastation of Irma.
These kids and their parents welcome the first day back at school as the first step toward normalcy for everyone. But.... what do our children feel when their pillars, our teachers, have been displaced from their own homes, are faced with mounting financial burden while restful nights and hot meals are sparse?
What happens when your child’s school is now a shelter for hundreds of newly homeless neighbors or classrooms are condemned due to mold?
What happens then?
Imagine for a moment, losing your home, losing all of your belongings, facing a quickly dwindling bank account, trying to rebuild what is left of your life and being utterly exhausted as you crawl into an unknown bed at the end of the day thinking of an unknown future…..Now imagine having to face, stimulate and motivate 20-30 kids who are also confused and hurting the very next day.
Our teachers and our schools are a sanctuary for children, but what happens when our teachers are hurting, exhausted and lost?
Keys Teacher Relief is a Hurricane Irma disaster relief fund to support the 600+ teachers affected by Irma throughout the Florida Keys. The Brainery, a Keys based education company has inititated the nation-wide campaign and will be dispersing funds to teachers.
Your generous donation will go directly to a school teacher in need; some have lost a little, some have lost a lot while others have lost it all and still are unable to return to the work and the students they love.
Campaign ends on December 31, 2017.
Thank you for your generosity, support and time.
