Love Your Neighbor

Uncertain times are leaving some single moms in our community scared and worried!  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many have faced recent job losses, layoffs, or severely decreased work hours.  This has been going on for several months now and the bills are piling up.  Imagine being a single parent and the only security you have for income has been WIPED OUT!

I've had the opportunity through my work with the Piatt County Red Kettle to hear from several single moms in our community who have faced significant financial challenges due to decreased work or job losses due to COVID.  They've accumulated $800+ power bills, multiple late rent payments/fees, and late water bills that they haven't been able to pay to name a few.  Some still have not received any state aid for their lost income and can not get the unemployment office to give them a call back because the state system is so backlogged.  One mom I talked to had absolutely zero money coming in because her work hours literally dried up overnight.  It is a scary and uncertain time for these ladies and their children.  Some are working odd jobs to supplement the income loss and they are trying to hang in there as best they can, but they feel like they'll never be able to dig out of the financial hole that this unexpected pandemic has created for their one-income family.

Would you consider lending a hand during this difficult time?  They are our neighbors...their kids go to school with our kids...they're part of our community!  Anything that you can give will help these 4 families out significantly!  Thank you for considering these needs!

These are a few of the more urgent needs currently for 4 different families (3 single moms with 7 children in total and 1 grandma):
-House payment $700
-Power bills (several past due) $850 for one family and $600 for another
-Rent payments for two different families at $450 and $600
Medical bills $350 for a grandma recently diagnosed with cancer
-School fees/supplies (scientific calculator) not received at supply drive $150
-Water bill (past due) $80
