Kathy has had some real struggles the last few years. A year after moving to Florida to be closer to family, Kathy suffered two strokes. One was mild and she was able to get back to living fairly easily. The second hit two weeks later while she was undergoing a procedure to add a stint in the blocked artery.
The strokes occurred during Covid and Kathy spent over a week in the hospital, by herself, while they treated her to be able to go home. Once she was released, she began therapy to correct some speech and writing issues. Prior to the strokes, Kathy was working a full-time job at Publix, a local grocery chain. Kathy had to give up that job after the stroke because she no longer has the skills to run a cash register.
Kathy currently works at a memory care facility as an activities planner, making a little more than minimum wage. She works for Door Dash in the evenings to supplement her income. Kathy has taken advantage of all the social aid she can, but she is no longer eligible. Kathy searched for a long time for the least expensive apartment she could get. But rent, a car payment and insurance use up most of her take home pay.
Last month Kathy incurred a large bill for car repairs. She was forced to take out a high interest loan to pay for the repairs because she cannot be without a car. She does not have any savings right now. Her living expenses are as minimal as she can make them, but she still needs help. This high interest loan pretty much buried her and it will be a tough hole to dig out of.
Kathy is asking for any help we can give. $5, $10, $20. I know for most of us, this might be a lunch date or a few trips to Starbucks. Kathy is living bare bones and is not looking for money to splurge on something, but to pay her bills. If you are able and willing, please consider helping Kathy.
