Cham's Daughter's Education Fund
Donation protected

This is a beautiful family we met while holidaying in Cambodia. Their story touched our hearts and we have decided to put this into action through 'gofundme'.
Cham was our tuk tuk driver three years ago and we employed him again when we travelled to Phnom Penh this year. This is Cham's story:
He is a proud tuk tuk driver in Phnom Penh. He works long hours to support his family making on average about $2 a day. Recently however work has dramatically reduced for him. The Hotel where he is allowed to park his tuk tuk closed to become a boutique shop.
There is a complex and costly system for where tuk tuks are allowed to park and work. He used to take customers to the airport or on sightseeing trips but now the hotel has closed there is less need for this. His wife used to work in a sewing factory but it has closed down and she is looking for a new job.
They have a bright and chatty 11 year old daughter who loves learning English and Science. Cham knows the future is bright for his daughter if she can get a good education. He had to leave high school when his parents passed away and his wife had limited schooling due to her family being poor.
We took Cham's family out to a restaurant. They were so excited as they had never eaten in a restaurant before. We were delighted when Cham's daughter practised her English on us and told us of her dream to become a doctor. However she knew this was impossible as her family could not afford the education required. She was happy to become a tourist guide or work in a bank, but even then she needs a good education. This is a big ask when Cham is currently struggling to pay the rent on their tiny 2 room wooden shack built of recycled materials on top of another house. To access their home you climb a steep steel ladder which is very slippery in the wet. It gets very hot in their house so they live outside a lot although they do have one small electric fan.
Education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle and giving this family a chance at a better life. A small ripple in a large lake will make a difference for this family. Please help us to support them by contributing to an education fund for Cham's daughter. Any contribution, big or small, will make a difference.
