Piper Got The Surgery She Needs-Now on to Rehab

Piper came to live with us after her person Nancy died of cancer in 2017. She is a peppy, happy girl and some compare her to “tigger” as she exuberantly bounces to greet anyone walking by the yard. In fact, she has become a neighborhood sensation.

Piper would accompany me to my shop during the days where she would charm all who stopped by and she was my therapy dog through my bout with breast cancer.

Unfortunately, disaster struck on a Friday night in June of 2020. While we were away from the house, two neighbor dogs attacked Piper in our backyard after she got stuck between our two fences. The dogs managed to pull Pipers left legs under the fence and continued the attack to legs, face and tail.

Piper nearly died that day, but was rushed to an ER vet who amputated the front left leg, nursed all her wounds, and essentially saved her life. Over the next several months, with lots of TLC, she regained her usual peppy personality and was able to greet passersby’s with her signature bounce of unbounded joy!

The remaining front leg now had additional strain so we stopped our hill hiking and stuck to more gentle walks around the block.

On Saturday, February 3rd Piper sustained another injury when she was jumping and playing in the backyard, and suddenly yelped and fell. The ER vet said that she had torn her ACL in the rear left leg and would need surgery, rehabilitation as well as supportive braces for the injured leg and solo front leg.

Piper is an important member of our family and she will turn 9 years of age on March 27th of this year. She still has lots of love and zest for life so we are asking our fellow dog lovers to help us with the bills this time so we can continue to support our sweet Piper.

Our fundraising goal is $5,500 – The ACL repair surgery did cost $4.800; the supportive braces did cost $1500, and rehabilitation will cost $850. Thank you to all who have donated. We appreciate your love and support as we reach towards our goal.
