Support for Jason Biundo after spinal injury

On October 21, Jason Biundo, a rising junior at UMass Amherst, suffered a serious traumatic spinal cord injury that left him with no movement in his legs and minimal sensation. We are raising money to help the considerable costs associated with Jason’s medical care, rehab, and accessibility renovations at home. All money raised will help offset this tremendous financial burden for Jason and his family.
About Jason: Jason Biundo is a rising junior in the Commonwealth Honors College at UMass Amherst, and is pursuing a dual degree in neuroscience and biology. He is an undergraduate research assistant in a neuroscience lab, doing work to help understand the mechanisms of addiction. In addition to his studies, Jason works as a residential Peer Mentor, where he helps a diverse group of students transition to college life both academically and socially. For his outstanding commitment, Jason was awarded Peer Mentor of the Year in his first year on the job. Jason was also recently elected President of the BioSci Club, which aims to encourage students to engage with scientific material, and help connect students to faculty and other campus resources. In his free time, Jason enjoys reading, rock climbing, ice skating, and has made it his personal goal to pet every husky he can. Jason is an avid rock climber, and has been climbing for a majority of his time in college.
On October 21, while climbing, Jason suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury following a long fall. He had a major fracture in his lower back in the thoracic region (T12) of his spine. In addition, Jason broke a rib and sustained a cracked sternum. To address this, he had a major spinal fusion surgery the night of the accident. The surgery was successful, but Jason still has no movement in his legs, and has minimal sensation. He is currently ailed by chronic pain in his lower back and chest areas.
Your support will help us pay for medical expenses, assistive devices, and hopefully help offset the cost of acquiring a service dog for Jason.
