Leigh's Medical Treatment Fund

Hi All-
You are here at this page because,  like me,  you love our mutual friend Leigh McLeroy.  Whether you know her from childhood, from church, as a writer, a Sunday School teacher, a Bible teacher, a fellow Aggie or from her Wednesday Words weekly devotional - you know she is one of the most intelligent, Godly and gifted women we know.  When I had lunch with her recently and saw her having to use a cane (with great grace, I might add!), my heart sank.  I begged her to let me start this page for her and, as you know Leigh, it was very very hard for her to accept.  But she did...and rather than have me tell the story...I convinced her to write her story...because as we all know...no one has a way with words better than Leigh.  Please help if you can!! No gift is too small.  Every bit helps!  With gratitude and in appreciation for our great friend Leigh!!!!

Here is Leigh's story in her own words:
This is scary. And humbling. And I need help.

For the last 3-½ years, I’ve been regularly receiving a treatment called plasmapheresis for a chronic autoimmune disease. It has kept the progressive symptoms of my disease--debilitating neuropathy, muscle weakness, joint inflammation and fatigue--under control, and by God’s grace I’ve done very, very well.

Unfortunately, this year the provider network and coverage limits of the very costly, high deductible individual insurance plan sold to me changed soon after I purchased it, so that the hospital where I receive treatment is no longer “in network” for me. (My previous plan, which covered my specialists, and the treatment I need, was cancelled when the Affordable Care Act became law.) There is only one provider in the city that offers plasmapheresis on a therapeutic, outpatient basis. Because my doctors have prescribed the treatment for me in recurring series of eight and my co-pay for a single treatment is now $2,860, I have not been treated since late summer, with increasingly debilitating results.

I will shop for a new individual plan to take effect in January--although I’ve already been told that individual, off-exchange plans are disappearing and networks constricting even more as a result of Obamacare. Because of this I desperately need another round of plasmapheresis now to bridge the gap.  So I’m trusting God and asking His family for help. In just the last week, I’ve received three unexpected and precious gifts (through snail mail no less!) -- two of those from people I’ve never met who are recipients of Wednesday Words. I am so thankful for these. Into the “medical kitty” they go! I know God is near, and I want you to know that in the midst of this very hard and frightening season, He is still showing His goodness to me. Would you help, too, if you’re able--and please pray for even more of His overwhelming provision and mercy?

With humble thanks and love, Leigh

Let us bless Leigh as she continually serves as a huge blessing to us.
