Please support Khaty & Lucy

Sadly, our mother, Barbara Mann, passed away on Friday, May 27th, at the age of 88. She had been fighting ovarian cancer for almost three years. During the final three weeks of her life, she hired a caregiver with whom she formed an immediate bond.

Khaty and our mother shared a love of music - particularly opera, as well as the arts. They had many meaningful conversations. During the final week, when it became clear that our mother was failing, Khaty graciously offered to work 12-hour daily shifts, alternating with her friend Maia, who worked nights.

Each day, when she was with us, Khaty missed spending time with her long-time love, Sandro, and their 5-year-old daughter, Lucy. Our mother passed an hour after Khaty's exhausting shift had ended; yet, when Maia called to tell her, this gracious, caring woman, turned immediately around to be with us, as medical personel, and funeral home staff, carried out their duties.

We're certain that many families have benefited from Khaty's skillful, and compassionate care -- and many more will . She could not have been kinder, or more attentive, toward our mother, and our entire family. We feel very fortunate to have had har with us during this difficult time; and now, we hope to help Khaty and Lucy get through their own tragedy.

We were beyond devastated to learn that, shortly after midnight on Saturday morning, just a few hours after Khaty left our mother's home, 34-year-old Sandro died of a sudden, unexpected heart-attack. He was a devoted and doting father to Lucy, and Khaty's beloved life-partner. He was also an important financial support for their family.

The near future will be incredibly painful and difficult for them. We cannot heal their grief, but we can reflect their generosity back to them, in this inadequate, but concrete way.

In memory of our mother, Barbara Mann, please help Khaty and Lucy during their time of need. We are certain that our mother would want nothing more.
