At 10 days old, our daughter Khloe was home with us on a regular Sunday, when she suddenly stopped breathing. We rushed our newborn to the ER and after a transfer to UF Children's hospital (Shand's), Khloe was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).
Khloe fought for her life for more than 2 agonizing weeks before she was able to stable enough for her first of three open heart surgeries.
After 4 weeks in the hospital, we were finally able to bring Khloe home. But everything is not "back to normal" as naively thought. I have had to take an unexpected unpaid leave of absence until Khloe is one because of her compromised immune system and corresponding delayed vaccination schedule. We had expected money to be tight with a new baby but we never anticipated all the extra medical bills and facing all of that with half of the income we thought we would have.
Khloe is a fighter. She fought for 10 days without her CHD diagnose (the expected lifespan with this diagnosis is 2 days without intervention), she fought through a sever protein allergy, and she is fighting again as we gear up for her 2nd open heart surgery.
We never thought that we would be here, asking for emotional and financial help, but life has thrown a curve ball. Please help us help our daughter continue her courageous fight! This next surgery will bring a new onslaught of medical bills and those coupled with the decrease in income means we are never quite sure how each month we will make ends meet. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated, and especially if money is not an option, any prayers or thoughts you can send to Khloe are treasured.
Khloe's next surgery date is February 16th. We are so appreciative of your support.
