Kia & family - housing emergency
Donation protected
On July 20th, lightning hit a tree which fell partly onto our building... we had to evacuate shortly after, and have not been allowed into the building since. Two weeks later, the landlord informed us that all tenants had their tenancy end on July 20th and would need to remove our belongings immediately so they could begin repairs and deal with water damage.
We're looking into tenant rights and legal counsel, but in the meantime we're concerned about collecting our belongings - particularly because they've said they will remove the contents of apartments themselves if tenants do not act quickly.
We will need to arrange movers to pack up our apartment, and take the contents to a storage unit next week. We also need to find another cat-friendly short-term rental soon.
We are looking at costs of at least $5000 just for these next steps (after already spending significant money for the last 2 weeks on the cost of a hotel, our current sublet, buying clothing, food and basic essentials, and losing money on a cancelled trip).
We're using up our savings to deal with this housing emergency and anything that can be contributed would be greatly appreciated... and will help us offset the costs of any legal consultation. Thank you so much.
