Hi, my name is Kian, I live in Wenatchee, WA and I am an 8th grader at Orchard Middle School. I am excited to announce that after a season of cross-country ski racing almost every weekend this winter, I have qualified for Junior Nationals! I will travel with the Northwest's Junior National team to Fairbanks, Alaska for a week of racing beginning on March 9th.

I am a first-year U16 on the Plain Valley Nordic Ski Team, and this is the first season that I am eligible to compete at Nationals so this will be a new experience for me. My goals are to place in the top 25% in the mass start freestyle race, to qualify for the heat stage in the freestyle sprints, and to gain the experience and confidence that I need to get onto the podium next year.

Cross Country skiing is a very expensive sport due to all of the required gear as well as the travel, race entry fees, and the coaching and wax techs who help us train and make sure our skis are fast at the races.

For this Junior Nationals trip, we each pay a fee which includes lodging, most food, racing and coaching fees but we also need to pay for our flight and race clothing. I need to raise some money so that I can pay my portion of these fees because my parents have been supporting my racing all season. I am super fortunate that I have the opportunity to compete in Nordic ski racing because I get to travel to cool places, hang out and train with my teammates all season, and challenge myself to achieve my goals. I am thankful for the crew of family and friends who always support me and cheer me on.
