Hi Friends and Family,
Courtney and I are going to Visit Kibera Slums Community Development Program (http://kiscop.yolasite.com/about-us.php) in Nairobi, Kenya. This school is located in the heart of the Kibera slums in Kenya and is a respite for vulnerable children. Courtney and I will be travelling there in November to help teach, encourage and to raise money to properly resource and support them. Disclaimer: None of the contributed funds are going towards our personal travel costs, everything will be either monetary contributions to the school or more specifically contributions towards the following major needs:
Technology for education purposes – $3,000.00
· Believe it or not, according to Amos (the principal), the schools biggest need is technology; to support student learning and the curriculum. Amos has advised that a classroom set of tablets would be an incredible resource for the students. I have done some research and found an affordable yet decent tablet that would meet their technological requirements.
· A classroom set of 25 Lenovo Tablets (e7) would cost around $3000 including robust cases & keyboards.
· There are so many apps / websites / online resource that could be used to further the education of these amazing kids. We would love to make this happen for them
Medical supplies – $300.00
· Wound dressings
· Burn creams
· Wound creams
· Woman hygiene products
· General hygiene products i.e. soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste, hand wash
School supplies & toys – $700.00
· Bibles
· Notebooks for the cohort
· Stationary i.e. Pencils, sharpeners, erasers, coloured pencils, pens
· Calculators (optional)
· Toys e.g. tennis balls, cards, soccer balls, pump
