Kibera (Kenya) Soccer Women FC needs YOUR support
Donation protected
Kibera Soccer Women FC means freedom, Kibera Soccer Women FC means power, Kibera Soccer Women FC means opportunity. Kibera Soccer Women FC needs YOU to help them continue their fight!
Kibera Soccer Women FC is formed of strong, hard-working, committed and, quite frankly, exceptionally talented women from Kibera, the largest informal settlement (slum) in Nairobi, Kenya. They have fought hard for their place in Kenya’s Women’s Football League, even reaching the Kenyan Women’s Premier League. The new season has just started, and, as it stands, the team does not have the budget to play all their matches.
This is where YOU can make a difference by supporting these incredible women. With YOUR donations, we can lift Kibera Soccer Women FC to a new high, allowing these women to reach their full potential and find a safe place in sports and education.
WHY IS YOUR SUPPORT SO IMPORTANT...
Helping Kibera Soccer Women FC means overcoming gender inequality, supporting female empowerment and fighting poverty, illiteracy, crime and prostitution. It also means providing the players with access to business training and mentoring to support them on their road to independence and to a better future for themselves and their families.
YOUR DONATIONS...
No matter how big or small, all donations count! Here are some examples of quite how far YOUR donations can go:
• Player salaries – £20 per player per week or about £450 for the entire season (this is an absolutely vital source of income for the women and their families)
• Training kit - £150 for the entire team
• Business training sessions – £750 for the entire team and season
• Mentorship sessions – £750 for the entire team and season
• Transport for home and away games - c.£4,250 for the entire team and season
• Food and accommodation for away games – c.£5,750 for the entire team and season
WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...
Kibera Soccer Women FC was founded by a man called Abdul Kassim who, in 2002, decided to set up a football programme for young girls living in Kibera. His aim was to engage and inspire these girls through sport. As the team grew, Abdul started losing players as they graduated primary school because many had to start working, with some even being forced into prostitution. Abdul understood that education was key to the girls’ future, but most players could not afford to pursue secondary education. So, in 2006, he founded a free secondary school - Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (KGSA). The school continued to offer a girls football programme and soon KGSA’s senior girls’ team became Kibera Soccer Women FC.
WHAT NOW...
Kibera Soccer Women FC has been playing in competitive leagues since 2014. Thanks to their skill and determination, they made it to the Kenyan Women’s Premier League! Recently they were relegated to the second division not due to lack of talent but lack of funds to travel to their away games. Now, with YOUR support, they are ready to fight their way back to the top!
