Kibo Robotics Programming Challenge

JAXA needs your help.” https://jaxa.krpc.jp/ .The Gadget Girls formed to participate in this challenge to step out of our comfort zone and take upon new opportunities which will open up endless doors for us. eight girls from across New South Wales have come together to prove that winning and losing isn't what you should be focusing on but instead focusing on participating and giving your all to something regardless of the outcome, it gives us leadership and team building skills which are essential in everyday life. It is a great honour for us to be a part of this challenge and even if we don't make it to Japan, we will take away new memories, opportunities and skills. Gadget girls is an all girl team lead by Team Leader Jessica who gathers the team, and ensures that the members remain calm and stay on track. The team debates, merges, and improves the brainstormed idea and decides on a final design for the solution that fits financial and time constraints. The stereotypes surrounding robotics and coding Is mainly about how it’s a male dominated activity. Majority of the advertising used for coding will use males as an example, to bring attention and more people to that activity. When the topic of coding comes to mind people think of a middle-aged man sitting in his basement surrounded by computers, this image has been portrayed from movies and shows stereotyping coders and from this puts other people off learning this skill. The same thing happens to people who do robotics, as when people stereo-typically think about it, they think of an academically talented person with glasses by themselves or with others building a robot, and again this is from movies and shows. This stereotype puts off the young females from learning this skill or pursuing it as a career. This prevents future technology from being created for the future of mankind. This can prevent future career choices for younger kids of new generations. Well why do we need community involvement? A community is a group of people coming together to help one another. Through the journey of the Kibo Challenge we would benefit from the support of the community to inspire Gadget Girls to keep working hard and to get our name out into the public eye. By getting the name Gadget Girls into the community we can help promote female empowerment and help to encourage the youth of today to follow their hopes and dreams. Gadget Girls can give hope to youth to take a chance and try something new no matter the outcome as there is always something to learn in any situation. We have all had to work hard to get to where we are today, and to get what we want. We have all been brought up the same that if you want something you have to work for it, it isn't just given to you.
