Kick Cancer in the Gut

There are so many of us who are blessed to know Carl and call him brother, husband, Chef, occasional partner in crime, or friend. His network of friends and family runs deep in South Louisiana and well beyond and is testament to his kind and welcoming personality and generosity of spirit.
On April Fools' Day 2014 he received the devastating news that the stomach pain he'd been dealing with was not, in fact, an ulcer or heartburn, but something much more insidious. Carl's doctor found a large tumor in his stomach that had already spread to his esophagus and surrounding lymph nodes.
With the help of family, friends, and even strangers who were touched by his story, a fundraising effort was launched that helped pay for the not insignificant costs of care that were incurred. Thanks in no small part to that effort, Carl survived and thrived, even after losing part of his stomach in the operation that ultimately saved his life.
Fast forward to not quite two years later and Carl has taken life by the reins, opening two restaurants, Bacobar and DTB gaining rave reviews from critics and diners alike. Alix has found personal and professional success and fufillment opening Grace Pilates+Yoga in Old Metairie. They have spent their lives savings on following their dreams.
In the midst of all this forward movement came the news that would stop them, once more, in their tracks. Carl's cancer had returned and spread to his adrenal gland and is considered Stage 4 and Incurable.
It is Carl's intention to fight once more, for as long and as intensely as he can. This current fundraising effort will help them cover the cost of the excellent care he is receiving and keep the home fires burning while they travel to MD Anderson in Houston to explore clinical trials and any other treatment options that may be available to them outside of their fantastic team at Ochsner. Treatment at this level is averaging 250,000 dollars a year. It can take a toll on even the most financially stable. Any unused proceeds will be donated to a college fund for their two young children.
