Kick-Start Katie’s Recovery

Dear family, friends, acquaintances, and all who this may concern,

Our precious Katie was the victim of a hit and run on Sunday, June 2nd in San Diego California, while legally crossing a pedestrian walkway. The driver was drunk, ran a red light and was later apprehended. Thanks in large part for the kind bystanders who called 911.

Her injuries are extensive including a broken leg, a deep laceration in her back which resulted in damage to her kidney and bladder, a collapsed lung, fractured pelvis and facial fractures. When she was brought in to the trauma center, they surgically repaired her leg and organs and Katie was put into a medically induced coma. Her pelvis was operated on Tuesday, June 4th. Her facial surgery is scheduled for Thursday, June 6th.

She is slowly being taken off of sedation and we are incredibly grateful that she is responding to commands. We are forever indebted to the amazing hospital and the surgical teams that have been caring for Katie.

Katie is surrounded by her dear friends who are embracing her with so much love and many other friends are on the way. Katie’s father, Ron, arrived by Katie's side on June 3rd. While her mother, Liz, is due to arrive June 5th.

For those of you who know Katie, she is strong, loving, feisty, has an immensely positive attitude, and is dedicated to health and fitness. This will all work in her favor as she continues on her healing journey.
