Kickstart the new Greens Eggs and Ham Family Farm

Donation protected
4 years after a hostile takeover we are still working hard to restart Greens Eggs and Ham Family Farm,  a well known and well regarded local farm in Leduc County, Alberta. It has been a battle to rebuild and repair the destruction and theft we were left with but we have never given up. As a small specialty farm, financing has been extremely difficult. Late last year we were able secure some capital through Community Futures but were left short with no operating capital. Most of the repairs, new equipment, seed have been completed and sourced.

We were ready for an amazing KICKSTART year.

Covid happened and shut down most of our planned restaurant sales, which were to start in March 2020. At the time we were planning on producing only for restaurants.

Next the flooding happened... Leduc County declared 2020 an Agricultural Disaster year!

We lost 2.5 of the 6 acres of production land we have on our 10 acre farm. We are running short of many root vegetables, with the exception of potatoes or celeriac, and lost many other crops to flooding as well.

We are SO thankful that we were welcomed into Bountiful Farmers Market and the customers have really welcomed us with increasing sales and amazing comments and support. THANK YOU!!!

Going forward into the winter season we have many plans for our greenhouse but may not be able to see them to fruition as we are on the edge of collapse without additional capital to complete repairs and inputs needed for the greenhouse and we really need your help.
The greenhouse is necessary for a positive winter despite limited root vegetables.  The original budget with the  predicted sales, pre COVID and flooding, was to provide the income for the items listed below.

ADDITIONAL ITEMS AND SERVICES WE NEED:

$3000 to increase the power to our farm.

When we received capital through Community Futures there was enough to purchase enough lights to grow under our present tables to double the capacity. However, our electrician was not able to assess that we needed more power to the farm to run the lights.

Our Mixed Heritage Greens are SOLD OUT within the first couple hours of market with nothing left for restaurants. However, I don't think that we will end up with enough for restaurants as demand at the market increases with each person that tries them. They truly are different being greens from around the world with unique colors, flavors and textures. It is your salad and seasoning in one!

$3000 for electrician to hook up the remaining lights, once power is available

$5000 to keep utilities paid while sales are low

$5000 to purchase potting mix, seeds and supplies for the greens, sprouts and surprises I have planned

Farming and providing high quality healthy food are my passion and life's work and I can't imagine doing anything else.

Your contribution will help ensure Greens Eggs and Ham Family Farm sustainability and its renewed place in the local food community.

This would mean everything to us.

Can you help by passing this around to your contacts? Do you have media contacts that you think would be interested in our story? Do you know anyone who may be able to partner with us and invest? Do you have any ideas?

Please help in any way you can !
