Why shoes?
National statistics in the U.S. for Native Americans:
Native communities experience higher rates of suicide compared to all other racial and ethnic groups in the U.S., with suicide being the eighth leading cause of death for American Indians and Alaska Natives across all ages. For Native youth ages 14 to 26, suicide is the second leading cause of death; and the Native youth suicide rate is 4.5 times higher than the overall national average, making these rates the highest across all ethnic and racial groups. These statistics are unacceptable to me as a father and member of my indigenous community.
(Kickz for Kidz Program) provides school shoes for children in struggling indigenous communities and struggling indigenous people in the inner cities annually across the United States and South America . We believe that by providing good shoes for our children will instill self-worth, improve self-image and enhance the indigenous identity within our children and to improve the way they show up to the world. Let them know we love, care and support them to heal the internal and domestic core issue’s. It is detrimental to the psychological ideal of self, self esteem and our indigenous identity. It begins with the first step in life which is the shoes on our feet to encourage actual movement and steps forward in life, to create better leaders for our communities and future generations upon our Earth.
A student and family sign up and register for a new pair of shoes for school every year so it also encourages education and pursuit of something better, to achieve something more fulfilling, For the betterment of themselves. To inspire the power of achievement within them. The more successful they are as an individual, the more successful we are as a people. It is vital we take care of and support our future, our children on the first day of school and in life.
Our future depends on it!
Getting to the core of childhood traumas, indigenous identity issues and sustaining our traditional values. Our teachings and way of life are dying with them. We need to help our people heal and empower and encourage them to achieve their greatness by providing good shoes for our children for their everyday walk-in life and promote compassion for others. You can help change a life from the first day of school but most importantly you will help improve every step they take in life. To help support confident leaders for our future generations and a better world for all of us on this planet we love, Mother Earth, Mi Pacha-mama. Thank you.
