End of Life Care for Baby G

Donation protected
Update:
On Thursday, November 2 Baby G underwent surgery to inject dye into his kidneys to test for a blockage of his ureters, with the anticipation that if blocked, they would proceed to install Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass Devices on one or both kidneys.

Sadly, no blockage was found and if he were to be brought out of anesthesia his condition would continue to worsen over the next few days before passing. At the veterinary specialist's strong recommendation Baby G was put to sleep. A biopsy was taken to inform the veterinarians on how this sudden disease occurred in hopes that they will learn how to better care for cats in similar condition.

We have decreased our goal to reflect the final total of the costs, which include final veterinary bills, unpaid time off work, and Baby G's cremation costs.

Hi, my name is Jess. I’m trying to raise funds for my sweet boy Baby G to fight his feline kidney disease. Our fundraising goal is estimated from costs we have already incurred as well as surgery, recovery, and ongoing care.

On Monday, October 23 we took him to the emergency vet, because he was unable to keep food down or go to the bathroom for 24 hours. They determined he was rapidly attacked by kidney disease and gave him subcutaneous fluids and anti-nausea injections.

The following day, we took him to his primary vet for an ultrasound, urinalysis, and blood test. There was no sign of a kidney stone or cancer, but his kidney levels had spiked since his last regular blood test in September. Throughout the week we returned to the vet for fluids and anti-nausea injections. This successfully prevented further vomiting and he was feeling better for a couple days, but by Sunday he was drooling excessively and not eating. We were referred to the cat specialists at Veterinary Specialty Center.

Further ultrasound, blood, and urinary tests have only shown that he has one enlarged kidney - no visible blockage, kidney stones, cancer, or infection. The lack of diagnosis has necessitated surgery since it is not clear why his kidney levels are off the charts.

On November 2, he will undergo surgery to inject dye into his kidneys to test for a blockage of his ureters, and they will proceed to install Subcutaneous Ureteral Bypass Devices on one or both kidneys if they can confirm he has a blockage. This is the last step available to ensure he has a long and happy life.

My Baby G is only 7 years old and if his tests and surgery are successful he has a very good chance of living a normal life within a few months. We are still assessing the fundraising goal, because there are new costs every day.
