Shawna's Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
Shawna's Story: Eleven years ago Shawna was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. Being newly married to a military spouse, and having moving away from her home and freinds , this news was devistating. Though ,through it all she turned out to be the true soilder. Strong for five years, she felt she had this under control, when in December of 2012, late one night she had to go to the emergency room. Out of no where she was hit with the news that she had advanced to stage 5 kidney failure, the end stage. All new quetions and fears arose, what now, how long, and most of all why me. The past four years have had many ups and downs for her. Three years ago she started Peritoneal Dialysis (home daily dialysis), sadly her peritonium stopped working a year ago and she had to go on Hemodialysis. She has an excellent dialysis team at Davita Santa Rosa and a great Nephrologist at West Florida Hospital. The Good: Shawna has responded well with her treatments. Though treatment only has to get stronger the longer she is on it. So she has found a living doner. She has been accepted in the program at Ochsner transplant center, New Orleans, La. She has also been registered with the Transplant Center at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. The Bad: Even though Shawna has a great medical insurance plan, there are still high cost for her and her family. The $50,000 goal is only one tenth of the total cost that is not covered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield insurance. Finally: Anything that can be given will help. Even if it is just passing this along to other friends and family. The more people this can reach, the better chances Shawna has to reach her goal. Thank you for your time and any assistance you may give.
