Living Kidney Donor Team - Brigham & Women's

Donation protected
Our goal is to raise money for the Living Kidney Donor Team at Brigham and Women's Hospital.  They helped  save Karina's life and we want to ensure that many other people get the same opportunity. Living on dialysis is not living at all. The things this team accomplishes on a daily basis is simply amazing.  We truly appreciate everything they have done for our family and for the second chance they have given Karina to live a long and healthy life. This is our way to give back for everything that they have done for our family.

Photos right after surgery
April 7and 8, 2021

Ryan, now with only one kidney, plans to run the Midstate Massive Ultra Trail 100 miler in October 2021. This is going to be a challenge considering the event is only 7 short months after his surgery date.  Accomplishing this goal is to show people who are considering donating a kidney, that you can live a normal life after donating. "The recovery process for donating a kidney is going to be different for each individual. Everyone will encounter good days and bad days along the way" said Ryan. "Running to me is a form of meditation. It helps me in so many different aspects of my life and keeps me healthy and fit both physically and mentally".

The photo below is of Karina just 24 hours after surgery. This photo shows that her new kidney changed how her body is working in such a short time along with the beautiful physical changes. The swelling has gone away and her eye color and skin tone are starting to come back.

Recovering from major surgery is definitely a challenge but is worth every struggle that we are enduring.
