Kids in need-school uniforms in Roatan, Honduras

My fiancee and I first went to the island of Roatan- which is right off the coast of Honduras in May 2022. While we were struck by the absolute beauty of the place- the beaches, the weather, amazing SCUBA diving etc. we could not help but notice the rampant poverty of the local people. This was first evident when we got the local taxi from the airport to our hotel in the West Bay about 30 minutes away. Since then, we have returned to the island twice- in October '22, and very recently in February 2023 to finalize plans for our upcoming wedding in May of this year! We have fallen in love with the place- not just because of its beauty but more so because the local people are some of the most friendly and humble one will ever meet in the world.

The more we talked with and observed the locals during our visits the more we noticed how many young kids were walking along the beach and streets during school days selling goods or just hanging about- and that was a big eye-opener. During our last trip, we asked one of the locals why there were so many young children walking about and not going to school- and he mentioned that this was due to general poverty and I suppose parental abandonment. Further, there is a mandate starting in September for the upcoming school year that if parents cannot afford the new required school uniforms they will not be allowed to go to school. This broke our hearts.

School uniforms are not the only thing that these kids need. General school supplies and learning materials are in huge shortage. A small amount of money goes a long way in Honduras, just like in other such impoverished nations. Thus this outreach is to all our great friends, friends of friends, family and our larger community to contribute whatever you can to make a small difference in the lives of children who are in much need of a little compassion.

Any funds raised will be used to buy uniforms for those children in need of such, and any excess will be used to provide much-needed general school supplies such as pencils, crayons, notebooks, paper etc.
