Kids’ Kingdom Fundraising Initiative - “Custom Design and Community Dedication”
"The Times They are A Changin" by Bob Dylan
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
This song by Bob Dylan was released in 1964, more than 50 years ago. This was back before anyone wore helmets while skiing or bike riding and automobiles were not equipped with seat belts. As we learn more about safety and the dangers some of the old ways presented, often despite an initial reluctance, most of us wouldn’t dream of going without a helmet or seatbelt. The waters around us continue to grow.
Kids’ Kingdom has long been a valued treasure at Killington Elementary School. All the funding was raised outside of the school budget, the lumber donated, and construction was a labor of love for local families. The project was done more than 30 years ago with some major, and quite costly, repair work done on it about 11 years ago. Today, the design and construction of the Kingdom no longer meet the developmental and safety criteria of all KES students. The structure is deteriorating, and a band aid approach will no longer work on this dated, yet much loved Kids’ Kingdom.
Our Ask
KES has been fortunate to receive some rebuild funding from federal and state levels as well as money from a state non-profit for these types of projects. Additionally, PEAKS (Parent and Educators Aligned for Killington Students) has been successful in securing donations for the playground rebuild proposal. Thru “Phase I” of the PEAKS Kids’ Kingdom Rebuild Initiative we’ve received funding from Casella Waste Systems, Killington Resort and the "Play it Forward Fund", Rutland Regional Medical Center, Ottauquechee Health Foundation, Boston Children’s Hospital Anesthesia Foundation, and The Karr Group – allowing us to cover the expense of purchasing new state of the art playground equipment. As we transition to “Phase II” of our rebuild fundraising initiative, we look to focus on the creative design and Greater Killington community representation that has historically made the Kingdom such an extraordinary place.
KES PEAKS is now launching a grassroots fundraising campaign to provide additional funding for the design and installation of the new Kids’ Kingdom outdoor play area. We are asking our Killington community members near and far for support in our efforts to raise $40,000 to create a safe, enriching, and unique outdoor play and learning space with Kids’ Kingdom. Your consideration and support are truly appreciated!
