Kids Sharing Holiday Joy with Nor Cal Fire Victims

Donation protected
Please help us bring joy to the kids who lost their homes in the Northern California Wildfires. Hi, my name is Chase. I am 11 years old and I can't remember a summer in California that didn't have wildfires or a winter that I didn't worry about my friends and family on the east coast because of the hurricanes. Last year I did a bake sale with my family and sold jewelry I made to raise funds to support families that were forced to evacuate their homes and live in a shelter. I also asked people walking into a store near my home to take a minute to write a note of kindness to send with the donation. I loved doing it. It made me feel good to see people smile after they wrote a nice note to a stranger that needed support and to donate if they could.

This year the fires were so bad that we went days without seeing the sun. When I picked fruit from our tree it was covered with ash and when we opened the windows all we could smell was smoke. We live TWO hours away from the fires! I couldn't stop thinking about how bad it must be for the kids who live where the fires were happening. Every day the news was terrible - wind - heat - no rain. I saw people having to live in shelters, their houses burned, everything they have gone. It made me so sad. I can't even imagine what I would do if everything I have was gone tomorrow.  I just kept thinking about it so I thought I should do something to help.

I know how much I love the holidays, being with my family, baking, decorating, and waking up on Christmas morning excited to open presents. The more I thought about it I realized that the kids who lost everything to the fires wouldn’t have a Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanzaa or even a warm bed to sleep in. Let alone gifts. That’s when I realized I COULD do something to help! I told my mom about my idea and she suggested I ask my friends and then my whole school to help. They all said yes!

We started a fundraiser and gift drive! My original goal was 300 gifts. I know there are more than 500 kids who lost everything, but I didn’t think I could do it on my own. Now that I have the support of my family, friends, and all the students at our school, we want to get at least 500 gifts so we can give at least 1 gift to every child who lost their home. We want to make them feel special and know that someone cares about them!

Please help us by donating as much as you can or even just a little. Every little bit will help us bring joy to the kids who lost everything. We are setting up a FREE Holiday Gift Shop at the Healdsburg Free Store on December 14th. Everything at the Healdsburg Free Store is free to the victims of the wildfires. It is amazing and for at least one day, we want to turn it into a wonderland for kids and make sure they have something NEW and SPECIAL for the holidays this year. My classmates and I will be there to wrap gifts for the parents so they can walk away ready to surprise their child with something special. Please join us in making sure every child gets something special! Please share this with everyone you know. Together, we can make a difference and bring joy to the kids.

Thank you!
