Updated: Kiel Britton Still Needs Our Help!
Donation protected
**Updated 1/2/2024:
Friends! Thank you for all of your support of Kiel last summer. Your generosity has really helped take the edge off of some of the strain of these past months, as Kiel has had to increase his driving to dialysis and reduce his work hours ever more to accommodate his treatment and other realities of his illness. Currently, he's having to cut back even more on work, which is upping the financial strain big time.
There may be good news to announce soon on the donor front (crossed fingers/prayers/good woo/etc. all are welcome!), but the tough side of the donation is that it will mean a large chunk of time completely out of work. Kiel will request disability at that time, but that is a slow process and in the meantime Kiel needs some more help to keep his finances stable.
Can you spare another gift in this new year? And can you again re-share this out to help Kiel's community know he again needs our help?
Let's show our favorite little hockey playing, wool wearing, Jeep fixing firefighter we are still behind him!
Original Description:
Folks reading this may know that Kiel needs another kidney transplant. Following a recent hospitalization, he has had to start dialysis three days per week. This has led to his having to reduce his work hours – and thus his income – by almost half. When he finds a donor and can get a transplant it will mean more time out of work, likely a couple of months.
Kiel is a great friend, the kind you don’t let go of. Anyone who knows him could tell countless stories of how he has shown up for us. Maybe he’s changed our brakes, boiled our sap, helped us move, loaned us tools or camping supplies, or installed our bathroom fixtures. If you know him well enough, he's probably done most of those things for you at one time or another.
On a community level, Kiel has served on the Craftsbury Volunteer Fire Department for decades. When bad storms flooded the town earlier this summer, Kiel spent days and nights digging ditches, marking closed roads and bridges, bailing out basements, and ensuring his neighbors were safe, showing up for his town despite his sickness and the physical toll it took on him.
Kiel has been there to help all of us out, and now it is time for us to help him out.
How you can help:
- Donate to this fund to help offset Kiel’s lost income and medical bills in the coming weeks and months. If we can ease the financial pressure, it is no small thing. Be as generous as you can, and know no donation is too small.
- Spread the word. People want to help; let’s make sure folks know of this opportunity to pitch in.
- Consider whether being a kidney donor is possible for you. Find more info about the donation process here.
Thank you for supporting Kiel - his community is large and wonderful!
