COMMEMORATING KIERAN PATRICK LOCKE

On Sunday, October 24, 2021 the world lost a Warrior, an Adventurer, a Comedian, a Snuggler, an Amateur Zoologist, a Gamer/Minecrafter, a Best Friend, a Cherished Family Member and so much more.

 

Kieran Patrick Locke was a lot of things to a lot of people and he touched the hearts of everyone he met. Gone too soon after putting up a brave fight against cancer and a nasty opportunistic infection, we want to commemorate for eternity the gift that was our strong, funny and loving little man.

 

Kieran had a lot of interests, but at the top of the list was his love of animals (Minecraft and Nintendo were a close second). One of his favorite animals to research and see in person at the zoo was the Komodo Dragon. As fate would have it, a new Komodo Dragon exhibit opened at the San Diego Zoo the week of Kieran’s 6th birthday this year (June 6).

 

We have the opportunity to forever remember and honor Kieran with a plaque at the entrance to the all-new Komodo Kingdom at the San Diego Zoo where Kieran was an annual passholder and frequent visitor.

 

I (Dustin, Kieran's uncle) will be collecting funds and dispersing them over the coming weeks and months to cover the following memorial and family-related items:
  - Purchase of a plaque (1 of only 14) at the Komodo Dragon exhibit, allowing friends and family a place to remember Kieran and his love of animals, and provide strangers the opportunity to see his name and know what a strong young boy he was (not unlike the Komodo Dragon)
  - Purchase of a park bench memorial in Tewinkle park, Kieran's favorite neighborhood park, so that local friend's and family can visit on a regular basis
  - Purchase of a memorial at the Santa Ana Zoo, Kieran's favorite local zoo.  We are investigating a bench and an animal on the merry-go-round
 - Costs associated with a Celebration of Life event, to be held within the next few months
 - Donation to Mikaela's (Kieran's sister) 529 Education Fund

Note that we plan to post updates and photos to this site once the memorials are completed.

 

All donations are greatly appreciated and of course no amount is too small. We were lucky to be touched by Kieran’s spirit and hope it can live on forever not only in our hearts and minds, but also in the physical world.
