Oshita's Lahaina Rebuild

Hi, my name is Kayla Oshita and my sister Natalie Oshita and I, along with our cousin Ashley, are creating this fundraiser for our uncle, Blake Oshita, who is one of many who lost their home in the devastating Lahaina wildfire.

This house held the memories of four generations. Blake's grandparents first purchased the property in the 1930s during the plantation days. They spent the early years of their lives living in an old cane house on the property before passing the ownership onto their eldest son Eddie, Blake's father. In 1978 Eddie tore the old cane house down in hopes to rebuild a better home for himself, his wife Alice, and their three kids.

This house became a safe space for the entire family. It was always filled with an extraordinary amount of love and happiness--whether that came from enjoying a home-cooked meal together, spending time in the yard underneath the mango trees, or partaking in an intense game of cards. This house will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to create memories in it, but it couldn't mean more to anyone else but Blake.

He took over the property after the death of his parents in hopes to keep it in the family for the next generations to come. Blake has lived there since the house was built in 1978 until a week ago when the wildfire took it along with everything he owned. Blake is one of many who have been displaced by the Maui fires, so we thank you for taking the time to hear our story and helping us restore the part of us that we lost.
