Rescue pup KIKKO needs surgery to repair her knee

Hello—
I am starting this Go Fund me for my Daughter Amanda & my Grandson. Amanda typically works full time however, her hours have been reduced since covid began. They have 4 rescue dogs; all which have special needs. Amanda would take home every dog she comes across if she could. Recently, her 7 year old Chihuahua, Kikko has been holding her back leg up and showing signs that she’s in pain. She took Kikko to the vet and an x ray showed that she has a tear in the ligament that attaches to her kneecap. All of the surgical estimates she’s received are between $4,800-$5,300 depending on what’s required during surgery. One of the other dogs just had an expensive dental surgery so the timing couldn’t be worse.

A little history about my Daughter. Amanda has always had a dog but began rescuing multiple dogs, the last 14 yrs. She will foster them or often times, adopt them, she’s especially drawn to dogs with special needs. Unfortunately, this means she acquires a lot of ongoing medical expenses. She’ll do absolutely anything in her power for her dogs but that can be limited when a surgery is very expensive. Kikko is still very young for her breed and has many more memories to make with our family. These dogs mean the world to her.
A little history on Kikko. A few years ago, Amanda found Kikko abandoned in a parking lot. She was so frail & terrified. It was obvious that she’d experienced abuse & neglect from her previous owner. A few weeks after bringing Kikko home, we found out that she has seizures. She’s on medication and Amanda has researched other methods to reduce her seizures. She makes her food specifically for her because there are foods that can elevate Kikko’s seizure risk by altering certain chemicals in her brain. She’s tailored each dogs nutrition based on their age, breed, & medical conditions. She’s studied acupressure points to comfort each dog’s ailments. She’s learning of ways to reduce Kikko’s pain but surgery is ultimately the needed course of action at this point for Kikko to have a good quality of life.
Kikko has an extraordinary bond with Amanda & my Grandson. Of course they love all the dogs dearly but there’s just something about Kikko that makes her extra special. This new development with Kikko has put Amanda under a lot of stress because she isn’t sure when she’ll be able to cover the cost of this surgery. It breaks my heart to watch Amanda so distraught because she can’t take away Kikko’s pain. We want her to have the best quality of life possible, especially after having such a rough start to life.
Amanda won’t ask for help because she wouldn’t want to be a burden to anyone, and I am unable to help her financially. I’m hoping & praying that by creating this fund, people who are able to donate, can help them get closer to making this surgery possible for Kikko. Any amount donated would be appreciated beyond words.
Thank you for taking the time to read Kikko's story.
