Folks! I hope you join me in supporting NaNoWriMo. Nonprofit fundraising is down nationwide*. In board meetings everywhere, directors are wondering what the impact of this downward trend will be to programming. As Board President, I am dedicated to ensuring the health and longevity of the organization.
Thanks to Grant Faulkner and his amazing team, NaNoWriMo is an impeccably-run organization. However, when finances are tight, difficult decisions must be made. I'll tell you why I've reached deeply into my own pocket to ensure that NaNo's contribution to the writing community can continue without forcing vital programs onto the chopping block:
- NaNoWriMo welcomes everyone. We are a global organization that does not discriminate, creating access in multiple contexts and geographies for creative people all over the world.
- The writer resources are unparalleled. I want us to be able to maintain the same level of service, especially craft guidance, path-to-publication information and master advice from published authors.
- We give community to early-career writers who don't yet have it. Through November NaNo and Camp NaNo, writers can meet new people, gather with folks they know, and find support.
- The people behind the scenes make it happen, and I want them to earn a fair living wage and to know how much the world appreciates the work they've done.
