Hello friends and family,
Kiley was diagnosed with triple-negative, invasive ductile carcinoma breast cancer, which means it is an aggressive cancer, and it not responsive to hormone therapies. However, it is the most responsive to chemotherapy. She has had many appointments to date, and will have many more to come at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Her husband, family, friends, and cancer team are fabulous, and she is happy and grateful to have them by her side for this journey.
The team has decided to start with chemotherapy first in order to shrink her tumors and catch any wandering cancer cells before surgery. Right now, the plan consists of using two types of chemo along with a trial medication that is an amino-therapy. The first round of chemo will start Tuesday, Oct. 24 and will she will have a session once a week for 12 weeks. After the first 12 week series, she will undergo a second round of chemo where she will have a session once every 3 weeks, for another 12 weeks.
Kiley is a second grade teacher, and she loves working with kids every day. She hopes to be able to work during the first round of chemo while only taking a day off for treatment and possibly an extra day to recover. She will most likely not be able to work during the second round of chemo since her little students love to spread germs!
Once she is done with the second round of chemo, she will have a four-week rest period before she undergoes surgery. Currently, she is waiting on genetic testing to determine the exact surgery needed, but she will likely need a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction.
Kiley is feeling positive and is ready to beat her cancer!
All funds raised in this campaign will go to help pay for Kiley's medical bills. Any funds in excess of what she needs will be donated to charity to support cancer research.
