Killer Bois at The Soho Playhouse

Dear Supporters,

We really have a chance to pull this off! First, I want to thank everyone who reads this story. My name is Jamorra DuBose Morris. I am the writer and director of the play called "Killer Bois." We have an awesome opportunity to have the Killer Bois play premiering at The Tank Theatre in New York City for a month run in October 2023, Gods Will. This campaign is created due to my love for theatre and knowing its need. However, producing a play requires tedious decision-making and funding!

For the next few months, we must be as FOCUSED and SERIOUS as WE’VE EVER BEEN -that’s why We need ALL HANDS-ON DECK!

Currently, I am working with a small cast and crew, and we desperately need to raise $50,000.00, for a full production team. 100% of the funds will go towards paying our actors, lighting, marketing, set design, theatrical costumes and to build a website. I know it has been extremely hard for many to make ends meet, especially for those who are putting on a production out of their own pockets with little to no money. Believe me, I ‘ve done it! That is why we need your help!!!

If you are a supporter that cares about being enticed, Killer Bois will keep you on the "edge of your seats," as the plot builds towards its climax, a vulnerable thriller! I want to give my audience a feeling of pleasurable fascination and excitement mixed with apprehension, anticipation, and tension.

Synopsis

In October of 2019, I worked on a reading and workshop of my play called the “Killer Bois.” The play discusses mental health and the importance of perseverance of straight Black men with artistic dreams. I want to point out that I am not putting down other groups, but the goal is to cater to such a specific need of men (straight men with artistic dreams). The main characters are three young boys who were teased in middle school and in high school because of their creative passions. First, the lead character is named Emmanuel Miller who is interested in becoming a lingerie designer for women. His dream comes true when he gets older. Second, Emmanuel’s best friend's name is Lenz, an African man. He was bullied for his looks. As an older male, he becomes a successful model. Lastly, there is another friend called Joey. He meets the two young men in high school, an aspiring gospel poet who ends up changing his dream. Today, he is the infamous rapper... When these young men became famous, they made it farther in their careers and accumulated many fans and "supporters.” The one main problem, they dislike the people who support them. The three young men are condescending, rude sometimes in nature, and pessimistic towards the system. They dislike their fans because the same people who put them down are now praising them and want to be associated with them. The play coins the quote "Haters Are Our Motivators." One could ask the motivation to what? In this play, the hate motivates the lead character Emmanuel (E-mix) Miller to murder.
The name Killer Bois derives from the inside joke of the fact that E-mix has a mission to kill people he believes have no taste. Genocide of the follower. The narration goes back and forth, but the play takes place from the point of view of Joey the rapper, who is the rudest to people, but the least convicted to kill…
