Kilns for Communities Campaign

Our first project is to gift a biochar kiln to Indian Canyon

Please support us, the Fire Ecology Network, in gifting a community biochar kiln to Indian Canyon . This Ring of Fire kiln from Wilson Biochar is being offered to support fire safety, aid in increasing biodiversity, and to be in service of cultural practices that facilitate right relationships with fire.

Fire Ecology Network and EcoCamp Coyote wish to gift a biochar kiln to Indian Canyon, to be shared with the larger community, in service of restoration efforts, education, and demonstrations.

Indian Canyon is the only land continuously held by the Ohlone people. The land is only federally recognized “Indian Country” along coastal Northern California From Santa Barbara to Sonoma.

Indian Canyon provides a place for Indigenous people who need land for ceremony. Hosting over five sweat lodges, a beautiful arbor area for gatherings, and a round house area (future site of a traditional Village House) for events; as well as, offering 30-40 areas for individual prayer and ceremony. Indian Canyon, also being an important cultural center, provides research and exchange opportunities for students and interns from throughout Northern California to learn about traditional ecologically balanced ways of living.

About this Kilns for Communities Campaign

Fire Ecology Network is working to support hands-on volunteer effort in support of communities living in fire ecologies in safe and ecologically sound ways. We are planning to purchase kilns for Communities to use to lower fuel loads and improve the water retention and fertility of soil. We plan to purchase and deliver, with initial demonstration, kilns to communities in need of these resources. The Ring of Fire currently cost $2000.00 each. Any funds raised will go to support Fire Ecology Network in our ongoing work to assist community based action towards living within fire ecologies. Thank you for your contribution in bringing us closer to our goal.
