Kim Grant & Justin Smith Eaton Canyon Fire Fundraiser

Dear Friends of Kim Grant & Justin Smith:

My name is Sarah Snider. On the morning of January 8th, I received the devastating news that two of my most favourite people lost their beautiful Altadena home in the Eaton Canyon Fire. I'm one of Kim's many friends from Chicago who have been trying to get help for Kim and Justin since we first heard they had to evacuate.

It's stunning how fast everything can be taken from a person in a natural disaster. I have an insurance background and reached out to a contact in the industry, who, flat out said, when a fire destroys a home, insurance is never enough to cover all the expenses. My hope is this fundraiser will exceed our goal and they will have access to funds quickly to cover the costs of relocating and purchasing whatever necessities they need.

Kim has always had a fearless spirit and generous heart, a perfect combination for making things happen. When I first visited her in California, I was introduced to her wonderful Grand OLE Echo community. She told me she started the GOE in order to meet people, so helping to launch the LA Americana scene was just a by-product of her desire for connection. Among the people she met was Justin Smith, who was playing drums with Old Californio. Justin is the perfect match for Kim. When these two aren't putting on a show or hosting a party for their friends, they seem to be rescuing dogs. Their latest, Gordie, evacuated with them, thank goodness.

If you know these two, you know I have hardly touched upon all they do for others. Musicians found a champion in Kim as a publicist and Justin has delighted us as one of the most talented drummers playing in and touring with numerous bands.

We are only as strong as our community. Right now, Kim and Justin need our strength and support. Please donate what you can to help our wonderful friends get through this unimaginably difficult time while they find a new home and rebuild their lives. Funds will go directly to Kim and Justin.
