In Memory of Our Mom, Kim Hildebrandt

Some of you were aware that my mom has been battling Guillain Barre Syndrome this past summer, an awful and very rare auto-immune disease where your immune system attacks your nervous system. It had left her with horrible nerve pain and temporarily disabled from the waist down. My sisters and I had all flown in from different parts of the country to take care of her, taking turns to be with her. She didn’t spend a single day alone. We knew in our hearts she wouldn’t even hesitate to do the same for us, even if all we were battling was a broken wrist or our tonsils taken out or our fifth cold of the season.
She passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly this past Sunday (9/17) at the young age of 61 from complications of a blood clot. My family and I are completely devastated and, if I’m honest, a little directionless. It feels impossible to envision a future without her. She had sacrificed so much for us and we were only just getting to points in our lives where we could start to give a little bit back to her. I wanted to see her retirement dreams realized and I’m heartbroken she won’t get to enjoy that. She never hesitated to support our wildest dreams and was always there for us if our dreams didn’t quite work out the way we hoped.
She was a beloved administrator for a local private school, well known and loved in the community. She was an incredible cook and some of you were fortunate enough to know her recipes and favorite dishes that she’ll continue to live through. She was the best mom you could ask for and was like a second mom to some of our closest and oldest friends. Everything she did, every decision she made, was with her children in mind. All the qualities you love most about us, we got from our mom. It is a heavy grief we will be carrying with us for a while.
In lieu of any flowers, we are asking for donations to help with medical bills and other unexpected costs that have and may come up. We can’t thank our friends and extended family enough for their support. We love you all very much.
