My name is Shelly & I am fundraising for my sister Kim Quade.
Kim has had ongoing health issues for over a year now. Last March she went to the Doctor to figure out why the neuropathy brought on by her prior breast cancer treatment was getting worse. The Doctor ordered a scan and they found a tumor the size of an avocado in her heart. This tumor was very rare . They then scheduled her for surgery to remove it. Surgery was a success.
She returned home to recover.
A few months into her recovery she started noticing that walking was getting more difficult, her hands wouldn’t work right and she just wasn’t feeling well. she was having episodes of burning, stabbing pain in her arms that radiated up to her head. These episodes continued becoming more intense and debilitating. Kim had quite the fight on her hands trying to get into see a Doctor to figure out why this was happening to her. She finally got into a neurologist who ordered a ton of blood work and testing. That doctor couldn’t find any reason for what was happening to her. She set her up with a neurologist in Iowa City. She went to an appointment there on March 14th. She was admitted immediately as her hemoglobin was down to a 2. A 6 is life threatening with 12 being an average. They started blood transfusions & iron to get her level back up. It’s been holding at around 10. A low hemoglobin like what hers was takes all the oxygen out of your blood and makes your muscles not work. They became non existent and therapy is needed to gain strength back in her muscles.
Next step is therapy, which she desperately needs to regain strength and learn to do her daily tasks of taking care of herself. That’s where the problem with insurance comes in. Her Medicare supplement will only pay for 7 days care in the nursing home for therapy. We all know what the nursing home bills can be.
After all the bills over the past year, Kim needs some monetary help to accomplish her goals of getting stronger so she can go home and live the best life she can.
The Doctors in Iowa City have no idea what caused this to happen to her. They have run every kind of scan, scope, mri, bone marrow, spinal tap & gallons of blood have been drawn. And still no answers. They will keep a very close eye on her hemoglobin going forward.
If you can help, please do! Kim will forever be grateful..
Please keep her in your prayers
