Kim Thompson’s Cancer Treatments & Support

Hello, my name is Anna. I’m helping Shannon Thompson fundraise for my dear friend Kimmy and her family. See the blonde standing in the center of this photo surrounded by family, that’s her!

Normal life for Kimmy is spent managing and caring for her family. She’s a dedicated daughter who helps manage her elderly parents. She helps her adult children happily by spending quality time with her grandchildren and babysitting regularly. Kimmy is a dedicated friend who gardens, cooks, easily laughs and jokes around. She loves the roar of racing boats, barbecues and river time.

She’s also the kind of friend you can call at 4am in the morning, to meet you at the hospital when your son is being airlifted, due to an accident. Yes, I made that call and she was there to help us. She’s a dedicated friend and I love her.

In February Kimmy was hospitalized due to a seizure. After a series of tests and lots of waiting, the results revealed two brain tumors in her frontal lobe. In April she had emergency surgery to remove the large tumorous mass. The second mass couldn’t be biopsied, let alone removed safely.

Her diagnosis is Stage 4 Glioblastoma. This is an aggressive cancer! The average survival time is 12-18 months. Apparently, only 25% of Glioblastoma patients survive for more than one year.

Following a new series of hospitalizations, Kimmy’s quality of life declined. A new MRI revealed the smaller tumor grew, the removed tumor grew back and now a possible third tumor has appeared. She started daily radiation and chemotherapy treatments as soon as it was possible.

Kimmy’s days have became filled with seizures, facial spasms, a speech impairment, confusion and weakness. But she is still so positive as she attends her daily treatments of radiation and chemotherapy in the best spirits full of hope.

Her family has sent her records to Brain Tumor Specialists at Houston Memorial in Texas. That’s far from her Las Vegas, Nevada home. She is in the ‘second opinion phase’ and her family will meet with the team in Houston to see if she can get approved for their cutting edge treatments. Houston Memorial’s treatment offers the chance for a full recovery with their cutting edge process for tumor removal!

Needless to say, the daily deductibles for chemotherapy and radiation add up quickly. Lets add multiple emergency room visits, the many hospital nights and new medications. How about we top off the many days missing work from her husband. And now, plane tickets to Houston, hotels, program fees, hospital and doctor’s costs. I’m feeling over-whelmed writing this let alone can’t image what it feels like for them. Now lets add the stress of not knowing what’s going to happen. My goodness, let’s help our dear Thompsons face this life event without financial worry. It doesn’t take a lot to make a huge difference if we all do a little.

Please help us reach our first goal of $15,000. Kimmy and her family need our help and together we can!
