Cancer Fund for Kim Sharpe
Donation protected

Unfortunately, our very special friend, Kim Rogers Sharpe, has a reoccurrence of cancer. Just a few weeks before the 5-year benchmark.
This has happened so fast and has been a complete shock to everyone. In October 2011 Kim was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and had a double mastectomy, which was believed to remove the cancer. After completing almost 5 years of hormonal therapy, she felt a lump under her left arm. Our first thoughts were that this was scar tissue. But to be safe the next day she went to see her oncologist for an evaluation. After a biopsy and several scans, the growth was determined to be invasive cancer again.
Because this was the second time for Kim, it was decided to have a second opinion at the Kirklin Comprehensive Cancer Center in Birmingham. Alabama. She was seen immediately. After several more scans, labs, testing, and doctor appointments a treatment plan was underway.
The cancer mass was removed 9/15/2016. We now know that not only had the cancer returned but it has now traveled to her lymph nodes. She is now facing 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy, 6 weeks of radiation and several years of endocrine therapy.
Not wanting to be away from her children, she has decided to do all of her treatments at UNC Lineberger Cancer Clinic in Chapel Hill.
Kim is a very special woman with a kind soul. She is a single mother of 2 children, works 2 jobs, and has fought cancer once before. She has assisted other cancer patients and participated in charitable events to help raise funds for research. She is also a proud woman who likes to give help to others, but never asks for herself.
However, Kim faces difficult times like we all do, when circumstances are out of our control.
I imagine the thoughts going through her mind when she lays awake at 3 am in the dark. What happens if its worst case? How can I make sure my children are ok and have happiness? What treatments will I need? How will I react to Chemo? Radiation? How do I pay for all of this? Insurance will cover 70%. I have 30%. I haven’t even paid all my first medical bills? I have work responsibilities, people who count on me. I can’t afford to take the time off.
Kim can use our help.
If you are able, please help support her financially with a donation of any size. Kim will use your donation to pay monthly living expenses and medical bills. The amount of time off work and consequential loss of income, combined with the travel expenses are immediate costs for Kim. Additionally, there will be substantial medical bills. If you can help Kim with a donation it helps reduce financial stress.
Let's help Kim stay focused on the most important priority - fighting for her health and future.
.
We sincerely THANK YOU for any support you can offer to Kim and her family. She will fight this and win. She is a warrior.
