Kina Zore Africa Tour 2020
Donation protected
After playing for 10 years, Kina Zoré is finally fulfilling our dream of going to Africa! This is a very special and rare opportunity. It is possible because we won a highly competitive U.S. Artists International grant covering our expenses to play the Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe. We’ll also be touring in Mozambique. We are now raising additional funds for two goals:
Our first goal: hiring a professional videographer to make a series of short films, documenting our journey. We live in a video-driven world. Without video of the trip, it will be as though it never happened.
This is a chance for you, our friends, fans, and family who we can’t take along with us, to share in this experience. This will be an intimate chance to see Zimbabwe and Mozambique and all our adventures in between. We’ll be playing many performances, doing many workshops, collaborating with local musicians, and having a lot of fun! Given our itinerary, we can’t film or produce these videos ourselves, and want to make sure they’re done in the best way possible.
High-quality documentation is critical for legitimizing our work. Sharing this once-in-a-lifetime trip will spark further interest in Kina Zoré. Having these videos will give you a chance to share in our experiences and also help elevate the band professionally by recording this pivotal moment in KZ’s trajectory. Cost: $2000
Our second goal: bring along our favorite lead guitarist João Cabral Armando. An award-winning Mozambican guitarist and composer, Cabral is a perfect fit for Kina Zoré. He is currently staying in Boston and has been rehearsing with us every Monday and gigging with us. We were not able to write him into the grant and having him along will bring our shows to the next level. Cost: $2000
We are asking for donations of $10, $25, $50, $100 or more to make this trip into a dream come true. For the price of a night out, you'll help us share our experiences in Africa with the world. And you'll get a front-row seat!
Please donate - and share to help spread the word!
Sincerely,
Helder, Galen, Michael, Ed, Dillon, and Cabral
P.S.: Be sure to follow Kina Zoré on FB/Twitter/Insta to keep up with our travels.

More info:
Since we began playing in April 2010, Kina Zoré has won the Grand Prize of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, headlined the Beantown Jazz Festival, played for Mozambican president Filipe Nyusi, produced an album, and played countless shows in the US and Canada. It has always been bandleader Helder’s dream to bring the band back to his native Maputo, Mozambique.
Kina Zoré will perform in the Harare International Festival of the Arts in Zimbabwe. After HIFA, we will travel to Maputo to perform at Campo Alto, Seagull Maputo, and the Fundação Fernando Leite Couto and give workshops at Eduardo Mondlane University.
The Harare International Festival of the Arts has a 20-year reputation of showcasing the most famous African musicians in the world, including Salif Keita, Oliver Mtukudzi, Freshlyground, Thomas Mapfumo, Femi Kuti, Angelique Kidjo, and more. Playing in HIFA will be a great honor and will bring Kina Zoré to the next level as a band.
Playing in this distinguished festival and bringing our music home to Maputo will make this an incredibly meaningful tour! We look forward to sharing our experiences in Zimbabwe and Mozambique with you via videos, photos, and social media posts.
