Kind Folk Farm Needs Your Help

Dear Community,
We hope this message finds you well. It is with heavy hearts that we share some devastating news about Kind Folk Farm, an LGBTQ, POC, woman-operated, urban farm in San Diego. Kind Folk Farm is a no-till, no-spray vegetable farm that espouses the principles of ecological stewardship. On January 22, 2024, our beloved farm faced a catastrophic flood due to heavy rainfall, compounded by the cresting of the nearby Tijuana River. This unfortunate event has resulted in severe damages to our infrastructure, crops, equipment, and soil.
The polluted waters of the Tijuana River have left us with no choice but to pull all the plants from the farm. The soil, contaminated by the floodwaters, requires time for restoration. We must wait for multiple clean soil tests, a process that can take many, many months. Even when the soil comes back healthy, still time has to be allocated for the re-establishment of a full field in order to meet the needs of our customers. Unfortunately, by this point, we will have missed the window on the primary growing season of 2024.
Because of these events, we are being forced to consider the sustainability of keeping Kind Folk Farm at its current location. The threat of yearly flooding and devastation of our soil, is a risk Kind Folk Farm cannot afford to take. We are looking for a sustainable, long-term solution, so that we can serve our San Diego community for years to come.
To overcome these unexpected challenges, we have launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for the restoration and rebuilding of Kind Folk Farm. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant impact on our ability to bounce back from this setback and continue forward with our mission: to make fresh, local produce accessible to all.
How You Can Help:
Donate: Your generosity will directly contribute to rebuilding our farm and restoring its vibrancy.
Spread the Word: Share our GoFundMe campaign on your social media channels, with friends, family, and colleagues. The more people who know about our situation, the greater our chances of reaching our fundraising goal.
Purchase Produce: Once we are back on our feet, consider supporting us by purchasing our fresh produce. Your ongoing patronage will help us sustain our operations.
Why Your Support Matters:
We are quickly pivoting from shock to action, but are unsure of what our next steps are. Relocation is a distinct possibility for the next phase of Kind Folk Farm. We look forward to being able to share more details about the future as we come to better understand it. Frankly, the amount of money we are able to raise directly impacts the location, size and scope of our future operation.
Join Hands for Kind Folk Farm: We believe in the resilience of our community and the power of collective support. Together, we can overcome this challenging time and rebuild Kind Folk Farm stronger than ever.
Thank you for being a crucial part of our journey. Your kindness and generosity mean the world to us.
In Gratitude,
Kind Folk Farm
