Kindness Backpacks for children of Ukraine

Neil and I spent last week volunteering at the Warsaw Expo Centre which has been transformed into -PTAK Humanitarian Aid Center and is the biggest centre of assistance and support provided to refugees from Ukraine in Europe. Currently housing 6-7,000 refugees.  We spent the week working in the warehouse making backpacks for the children that were about to leave the centre to go on the next part of their journey. It was an incredibly rewarding and emotional week. The bags we made for the kids are running out and we are fundraising to ensure all the children leaving the centre have one of the bags.

We are raising money to fund 300 "Bus and Kindness" bags that are given to children when they leave the relocation centre on the next part of the trip. The bag contains a washroom bag, snacks for the journey, a toy and games for the bus journey. These bags will then be used as their school bags. Bus journeys range from 6-40 hours. Each bag costs around £15.

 

The idea was from Martha  who wanted to give the children a bag for the journey for practical purposes but also as a moment of kindness. Martha is pictured below with Neil and I and is one of the most humble and inspirational people I have met. Working 20 hour days to set up the warehouse facilities (no previous experience and has done a great job). Martha wanted to ensure all the children leaving had a bag for the journey, but also felt some kindness when they were given it. She managed to get 1000 bags, but these are now almost gone, so this is what we are fundraising for.
