Donation protected
UPDATE (2/29/24)- Today Kyla was transferred to Shirley Ryan Ability lab in Chicago where she will work with a specialized team to evaluate her and work towards her goals!! Ashley was able to fly with her on the Angel Flight to Chicago and she and Kyle will flip flop to be with Kyla over time. I want to thank everyone for their generosity and am blown away at the kindness of people over the last few weeks! Please continue to pray for Kyla and the family as she pushes through this next phase! God bless…
UPDATE (2/18/24)- Kyla continues to work toward her goals daily! She busted out of the PICU today, YAHOO!! We are looking at some spinal cord injury rehab facilities and trying to decide on one that will best fit Kyla’s needs. We appreciate all the thoughts, prayers, encouragement, and donations. We are beyond proud of Kyla
Hi everyone! I’m Sara Luoma, Kyla’s auntie. September 2023, a parents worst nightmare became Ashley and Kyle’s reality when we were told that Kyla had a tumor on her spine. After many trips to the Mayo including multiple scans, an angiogram, and a biopsy..Kyla was diagnosed with a rare tumor called a ganglioneuroma.
Fast forward to early February 2024 where the original plan was to perform 3 surgeries to resect/remove the tumor and subsequently straighten her spine. After making it through two major surgeries, we thought Kyla was on the path to life as a normal healthy kid. Four days following her 2nd surgery we were given the news that the tumor did contain malignant cells. As everyone was trying to process this new bump in the road, we were hit with yet another devastating event. As Kyla was sitting up in bed, she lost all sensation and movement in both of her legs . After many tests, scans, unplanned surgeries.. we are left with no answers as to why this happened.
While we don’t know what the future holds for Kyla, we know that the Barton family has many battles ahead of them. While we can’t take all of their financial burdens away, we would love to lessen the load.
There will be many hospital visits, travel expenses, inpatient and outpatient rehab, and modifications to their house to allow for wheelchair access, etc.
Our family thanks you in advance for any donation as we embark on Kyla’s journey to joy and recovery. I have no doubt that we can surround Kyla and her family to rebuild dreams and restore hope.
God bless you all!
