Kip's Last Year

Donation protected
Kip left home at 16 to come to North America to start his education to become a doctor.  Now he's just two semesters away and needs your help to complete his medical degree to become the only doctor within seven hours of his home village.

Weldon Kipkorir Kirui grew up in a small rural village in Kenya, about seven hours from the capital of Nairobi, but I met him in Victoria, British Colombia - as my next door neighbor at an international high school.  We both woke up and went for a run that morning, and for the next two years, he ran my corn-fed Central Kentucky butt into the ground - but always made sure to come back and help me make it up the last hill.

For those next two years, always with a smile, he took the hardest math courses, and the most complicated sciences, and did well enough that when we graduated he got a full scholarship to Dartmouth.

He finished there with flying colors and a Bachelor's in Chemistry, and then headed home to Kenya, to start med school in Nairobi - funded by a patchwork of sponsors from his college time and friends he had made along the way.  However, in year 4 of his 5 year program, those sources dried up, and now he needs some help to get through his last year before he goes home.  His tuition is $3,800 per semester, and while he's been crashing on a friends couch, a dorm room is another $1,700.  Add that up for the last two semesters of his final year, and it comes to $11,000.

That covers his final year, and then he's going back home to his home village, as the only doctor for over 100,000 people - working to provide them with services that have never been an option before.

I can't give you a tax receipt, there's no kickstarter rewards, and odds are you'll never meet this guy - but 100% of the funds we raise are going directly to help Kip finish school and get home to his village.  This is the best kind of giving - there's no overhead or administration, everything is going to go help.

He has a hard deadline of February 21st and we can make it happen.

This goes far beyond Kip, this benefits the people he is going to serve - by giving them access to healthcare to give them and their children better lives.

If you came here because you know me, or because you know Kip - thank you.  If you came here because someone you know shared this - thank you.  This is an opportunity to do good,  to fill an immediate need, and to accomplish lasting results.

Thank you so much for your time, generosity, and willingness to help.  It is truly meaningful and appreciated.

P.S.  We have a bunch of local fundraisers planned, in Frankfort and Bardstown, and we'd love to see you there! Some great musicians have offered to play a series of benefit concerts and we've had offers of chili cookoffs, potlucks and other great fundraising ideas!  We'll post updates as those plans are  finalized.
