Kique's Legacy: Supporting His Loved Ones
Donation protected
I have known Carlos Enrique Romero (known as Kique to many of us) for more than 30 years. On December 2nd, his wife received a call that left the family and many of us in shock. Kique appears to have taken a fall while climbing Aoraki/Mt Cook and is presumed dead. It is hard to believe that someone so full of life and who was an inspiration for many of us is gone. There were many areas of his life where he inspired others and added character to our lives.
His passion was mountain climbing, but he loved many things in the outdoors that added an element of adventure. An engineer at heart and in practice, he was a signal processing engineer, systems engineer, project leader, and principal engineer. He worked at the Lawrence Livermore Labs, Curtis Instruments, and Carl Zeiss among others.
He was also a father who raised two kids who attended Livermore public schools, and participated in many activities including scouts. He is the parent who would decorate his van and let kids crawl through it for trunk or treat or paint himself in full body paint to support their sport. If you needed someone to help or motivate, he was there.
Kique was always willing to help others and his family now needs some help. His wife is working to figure out how to make ends meet without his income, keep the house, and keep their kids in school. This will be very difficult at least over the next 6 months. Both kids are studying at UC colleges. The goal is to help cover the cost of the colleges until they can qualify for financial aid and loans to cover their remaining school and fill in the income gap to make the house and car payments. Any amount will help.
Thank you so much.
