Hello everyone, my name is Lily I have known Kira and michelle for years now. They are the most loving people and Its time for them receive some love back.
Kira is an amazing 14 year old with SMA2, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 2. She has been unable to walk since she was 14mos old and been in a wheelchair since she was 2 1/2. She has been solely raised by her mother, Michelle. Kira's father moved to Florida when she was 3years old and sadly, passed away in 2019. Currently Michelle has to rely on NH Medicaid Rides only for Kira's doctors appointments 2 hrs away in Boston, MA or locally. Unfortunately they are not always able to get them rides, deeming them unreliable to get them to these important appointments. Public transport is limited to M-F 8:30a-4:30p. That means no after school sporting events with friends, no weekend activities with friends or family. The Pandemic has held most of them confined to their homes over the past 2 years but this is just KIra's everyday life without a vehicle to get her places. That is extra hard for a teenager with new friends and wanting to be as independent as possible. It's quality of life! Michelle has exhausted all of her resources, through state/charitable foundation grant applications, but those can take months to approve and receive, if at all, it will not be enough for a safe and reliable wheelchair van. Due to Michelle being Kira's sole caregiver, she has found it challenging to hold a PT job let alone have a FT career. This makes it impossible for her to finance the vehicle they need. Like most parents she just wants to give her daughter the life she deserves. Anything helps! Thank you everyone!
